Frequently Asked Questions

Photograph Copying and Restoration

Frequently Asked Questions

I like this photo of my father but he’s in a group of people and I want a photo of him on his own.
We can enlarge any small head from a group at no extra charge. You may be restricted on how large it can go if the quality isn't good enough. If a  background needs replacing we will give a quote for artwork.
This old print is so faded, hardly any image can be seen.

By using computer techniques we can greatly improve old faded black and white or sepia images and bring back detail invisible on the original. Colour photos can also be improved if they are faded but if they have faded too much we can turn them to black and white and usually get some detail back.

My original is in pieces and part is missing. Can it still be copied?
We can restore almost any damage using the latest computer techniques. Each job is given a quote before work starts. Price varies according to the amount of time needed and starts at £10 plus cost of print and scan.
Can you turn my black and white print to colour?
Your copy photo can be computer or hand coloured. Alternatively, colour photos can be turned to black & white or sepia.
I only have a small photo of my grandparents and would like a framed print to hang on the wall.
Most photos, especially old sepia photos can be enlarged. We will  always advise after inspection of original.
My photograph is priceless to me. What if it is damaged or lost in the copying process?
We have been copying old photos for over fifty years, and appreciate how fragile they can be. Your original is untouched by the scanning and restoration process - all work is done on a digital image. If sending photos by post we recommend you pack with plenty of card and send registered and insured.
How long will it take?
Straightforward copy work should take about one to two weeks. Restoration and colouring can take upto four weeks depending on the amount of work needed. Urgent work required for a special occasion will be given priority.
What about copyright?
We will not infringe other professionals copyright - if it was taken by a professional photographer you will need to get their permission to have it copied. If you are not sure we can advise.
